Project 64: Orange 11.20.11

The color this week for Project 64 is orange and I was a little worried about finding it with the colors of fall quickly disappearing. However, on a trip over the mountains to Eastern Washington I found some wonderful examples of orange. The color is so vibrant and striking and my goal was to capture that in its different forms. The first photo was taken in snowy Ellensburg where I went to college. It was fun to go back for a visit and enjoy some of the snow. The other two photos were taken at Wanapum State Park on the Columbia River in Vantage. The last photo of the tree bark is my favorite as I have never seen tree bark that color. I left it SOOC because it was exactly what I saw in person.

I am also including my Purple Mountain Majesty color find from last week as last week I was not able to post it. It is a picture of a flower from my front porch that is still hanging on despite the cold weather.

Shades of Autumn: Orange 10.22.11

Today I spent the day admiring the fall colors. I was able to drive myself around and spend some time with my best friend as I finally got a new car. The colors were beautiful and the range of shades had me captivated. My goal was to of course capture the Shades of Autumn color of orange, but also to communicate the essence of fall. The changing colors and changing of the landscape are what makes fall such a breathtaking season. The variety of oranges that I had the privilege to see was astonishing. It was a great day of shooting!

Good to Wow SOOC: Pumpkins 10.15.11

For the Good to Wow Challenge this week the prompt was pumpkins. I was not too excited about heading out to capture the shots as the sky was overcast and the first pumpkin patch we drove by was so crowded that I couldn't see how I would get the photos I wanted. Driving down the road a ways we found a road side farm stand with a small pumpkin patch. The people there were friendly and it was the perfect setting to take my time shooting different angles. As for the overcast sky, I mentioned yesterday that I used the cloudy setting for white balance on my camera as I don't think I can dial in the Kelvin setting. I think it brought out the orange of the pumpkins and made the pictures feel warm. In some cases maybe a little too warm, but overall I am happy with the outcome. All in all it was a very productive day of shooting as you can see by the fact that I am once again breaking my own rule and posting more than one photo :o). Thank you for stopping by and I would love to know what you think about the white balance. Oh, and if you have a favorite please let me know. I had a very hard time narrowing these down!

Project 64: Burnt Orange Plant 10.15.11

Another week and another color for Project 64. This week the color was burnt orange which seems very appropriate with the fall foliage popping up everywhere. I love the colors of fall and how things change in some cases slowly and in others quickly. I saw many examples of burnt orange in the leaves and pumpkins I was photographing for other prompts, but I wanted to stretch myself. So yesterday while photographing the sunset at the Tmobile building in Factoria (more about that later this week) I saw this plant. The light was very low so I had to use a tripod to get the shot. I think it really works with the soft lighting that showcases the color and the interesting lines of the plant. In post processing I did a very clean edit in Lightroom by adjusting most of the basic settings and doing a tiny bit of noise reduction. This is yet again another plant I have no idea the name of, but I am ok with that :o). Thank you for stopping by and I would love to know what you think!

Good to Wow Edit: Orange Plant 09.30.11

For my edit for the Good to Wow Challenge - Orange my goal was to bring out the orange of this still yet to be identified plant. I wanted to go with a clean edit or an HDR edit after reading Ashley's post. I downloaded a Lightroom preset she recommended, but I didn't really like the look. So I went with a clean edit and adjusted most of the basic settings. Then I shifted the orange and green hues to bring them out more. I like how it warmed up the photo and made the orange pop. I would love to hear your thoughts and critiques!

Good to Wow SOOC: Orange Plant 09.30.11

I wish I knew how to put into words how blessed I feel this week. One of my photos is up for two different recognitions. The edit of the photo is up for I Clicked It Up a Notch - September and the SOOC is up for Best of September at Jill Samter Photography for the Good to Wow Challenge. The photo is of the Seattle Skyline and I was so proud of how it turned out. To have it recognized is amazing! And to have it recognized by two photographers that I admire and respect makes it even more amazing! When I started this journey, I did not set out to win anything. I set out to become a better photographer. To know that others see something in my work makes me feel like I am on the right track to become the photographer I would like to be. If you have a moment and would like to vote for me or your favorite you can click on the links above or in the announcements section to the right. Thank you!

For today's post, I am posting my SOOC shot for the Good to Wow Challenge - Orange. Last week I took pictures of leaves that were very orange so I wanted to go a different direction this time. I saw this interesting plant on my walk in the woods on Friday and liked how some of it was orange and some of it was red. I am not sure what kind of plant it is, it almost looks like a tomato (if you know I would love it if you shared :o). I like to depth of field, but with the edit I hope to bring out the orange a bit more. This was in very low light, but I think I like the lighting. The imperfections on the plant I think adds something to the feel of the shot. What do you think?

Thank you for stopping by!
