My photo for this week of a rapidly deteriorating Spring. A few weeks ago the flowers had begun to bloom and I was looking forward to some Spring photos. However, I only had time to take a few photos. Now, many of the flowers are beginning to fall and turn. I hope they last until this weekend when I hope to have another free moment. I have throughly enjoyed experiencing the seasons in a different way through photography and I don't want to miss out on Spring! This photo is of our camellia bush outside the house. I did a clean edit with Lightroom to brighten the colors.

Settings: ISO 200, 50mm, ss1/500, f/1.8 (sunlight wb)
Intent: The hidden feel of this flower

Favorite Photo of the Week: Sinking Below the Horizon

My favorite photo this week is from my weekend trip to what I affectionately call "almost Canada." It was taken from Birch Bay State Park, which was a new park for me. This was also a new attempt for me as I usually wait until the sun has disappeared and the colors are at their most vivid. This is also the best time for silhouettes, another passion of mine. This time I tried to play around with shots of the sun making its descent. My aim was to communicate the breathtaking feel of the light and the moment. I made many intentional decisions in my attempt to do this and I really like the outcome. I would love to hear your thoughts!

ISO 200, 240 mm, ss1/500, f/9.0 (sunlight wb)
Intent: The amazing color of the sunset and the light against the clouds
LR Processing: Clean edit to add pop to the color balance
Location: Birch Bay, WA

Settings: ISO 200, 18mm, ss1/100, f/22 (sunlight wb)
Intent: The texture of the rocks and the lines of the water and beach
LR Processing: Clean edit with basic settings and tone curve to add vibrancy

Wordless Wednesday: The Ever Changing Sunsets

One of the most majestic things about sunsets is that they are always changing. From one day to the next, from one moment to the next, there is stunning beauty and a timeless feel. I love the challenge of capturing something that utterly captivates me and how each time I set out to photograph it is a unique experience. These photos are two different sunsets - one on Friday at Birch Bay in northern Washington and one from Saturday in Lincoln City, Oregon on Siletz Bay.

ISO 200, 240 mm, ss1/500, f/9.0 (sunlight wb)
Intent: The amazing color of the sunset and the light against the clouds
LR Processing: Clean edit to add pop to the color balance
Location: Birch Bay, WA

ISO 200, 41mm, ss1/160, f/7.1 (sunlight wb)
Intent: To capture the beautiful colors and the texture of the silhouette
LR Processing: Clean edit to make the colors more vibrant and the blacks darker
Location: Birch Bay, WA

ISO 200, 18mm, ss1/250, f/11 (sunlight wb)
Intent: To convey the beauty of the soft sunset
LR Processing: Clean edit to balance the foreground with the background
Location: Lincoln City, OR - Siletz Bay

ISO 200, 18mm, ss1/40, f/11 (sunlight wb)
Intent: The vast feel of the space and the lovely array of colors
LR Processing: Clean edit to make everything more vibrant
Location: Lincoln City, OR - Siletz Bay

Tones on Tuesday #30 4.17.12

Welcome back and thank you for coming and joining in despite a brief hiatus last week to find my photography inspiration once again. Many beautiful entries from two weeks ago, but here are 3 that caught my eye...

Mock-Turtle from Jack's Paper Moon
Love the expression and the eyes, adorable! The colors are bright and fabulous as well. Thank you for sharing with us Mock-Turtle! The other photos of Jack and of the dog are super cute too :o).

The concept of this shot is so strong! The long exposure of the light and the black and white background gives such a sense of motion. Thank you for linking up Rebecca!

The drama of the black and white is amazing and I love how it takes an ordinary object to a different level. Beautiful bokeh in the background as well. Thank you for sharing Nessa!

I took a little break from blogging as I was getting in a rut and feeling uninspired. The break helped and then I went to one of my favorite parks in Lincoln City on Siletz Bay to photograph my favorite subject - sunsets and silhouettes. It was a perfect experience and it reminded me that capturing the magic of nature is why I love photography. For the first edit I did a clean edit in Lightroom with the basic settings and the tone curve and then applied Pretty Presets Sharpening. For the second edit I used the Who Is Wolf BW Deluxe Light Preset. I love the vibrancy of the first and the drama of the second, what do you think?

Settings: ISO 200, 18mm, ss1/50, f/11
