I Clicked It Up a Notch - May

While May has been a difficult month to find a balance I have had some wonderful photography experiences. One such experience was finding this amazingly lit rhododendron, using my new lens hood and capturing the dramatic natural light as I intended to. School gets out in 15 days and I am so looking forward to many summer days filled with photography, learning and passion.

Spent the weekend at the beach, recharged my batteries and spent some quality time with my camera. With the rapid descent to the end of the school year now in full swing, I am clinging to moments such as those this weekend to keep in my mind as I move forward. This is a photo taken at Fort Stevens State Park, one of my favorite beach parks in Oregon. This is of the dunes on the walk to the see the sunset. I wanted to capture the soft colors and with a bit of tweaking in Lightroom to the basic settings it conveys the dreamy quality I felt when seeing it.

Settings: ISO 200, 32mm, ss1/100, f/9.0 (cloudy wb)

Tones on Tuesday #33 5.15.12

It just may be possible for me to resume a regular blogging schedule next week. I am crossing my fingers and toes :o). I cannot tell you how much I miss it! Luckily I have been able to keep Tones on Tuesday going as your pictures never cease to be an inspiration and a delight to me. This week for showcases I noticed after I picked these that there was not only a flower theme, but a soft tones theme as well!

The soft feel of this photo is lovely. The colors work well together and the light coming through the leaves gives a dream like quality. Thank you for sharing Tina!

I love how this photo is all about the amazing details. The soft tones of the black and white play up the details of this interesting perspective. Thank you Raymonde for linking up!

Shiju at Cranium Bolts
Such a serene capture! The colors are beautifully contrasted and I love the bloom in the foreground against the bud in the background. Thank you for sharing Shiju!

To continue the flower theme, this is a picture I took on Mother's Day after we took my mom to breakfast. There was a park across the street with many beautiful flowers, including the state flower of Washington the rhododendron. Tucked back in amongst the flowers was a bright magenta rhododendron that was stunningly lit with just the right amount of sun to be utterly dramatic. I used a new lens hood my brother bought me for my birthday and it added to the dramatic feel by emphasizing the spot light that the sun was creating. In post processing I used most of the basic settings in Lightroom to play up the color and the light. What do you think?

Settings: ISO 200, 55mm, ss1/250, f/5.6 (sunlight wb, lens hood)

Saturday was my birthday.  On Sunday my family took me out to lunch and for a few photography adventures on some back roads. They know me so well :o). In between adventures, we stopped at the house to refuel and I noticed there was one purple tulip blooming. The sun light was shining through the petals and I loved how it looked as though it was lit from within.
