This weekend my mom, dog niece and I headed over the mountains in search of some Vitamin D. We found it and had a great time exploring! We also found some very blustery conditions that made for some difficult shooting moments. I was able to capture some shots I am proud of and I will be sharing those on Thursday. For today, I took a photo of this flower growing in my front yard when I got home. I have been meaning to shoot this tiny blossom for some time now, but have been putting it off. When I arrived home I noticed that the bottom part of the flower was starting to turn brown so I decided it was now or never. It was right before sunset and with the flower growing at the base of a tree it was very shaded. It posed an interesting and yet challenging lighting situation, but I like the detail and color I was able to capture. I would love to know what you think, CC is always welcome!

What about you, what have you been meaning to shoot lately? Have you done it or is still waiting on your "list"?

In order to be ready to start fresh for March I am going to wrap up two sets of photos from a trip to the Cranberry Coast back on the 5th of February and to visit my dad on the 11th of February in Astoria, OR. What better time to do that than Wordless Wednesday :o)!

Project 64: Orange 11.20.11

The color this week for Project 64 is orange and I was a little worried about finding it with the colors of fall quickly disappearing. However, on a trip over the mountains to Eastern Washington I found some wonderful examples of orange. The color is so vibrant and striking and my goal was to capture that in its different forms. The first photo was taken in snowy Ellensburg where I went to college. It was fun to go back for a visit and enjoy some of the snow. The other two photos were taken at Wanapum State Park on the Columbia River in Vantage. The last photo of the tree bark is my favorite as I have never seen tree bark that color. I left it SOOC because it was exactly what I saw in person.

I am also including my Purple Mountain Majesty color find from last week as last week I was not able to post it. It is a picture of a flower from my front porch that is still hanging on despite the cold weather.

Shades of Autumn: Purple 11.06.11

Purple. The color for Shades of Autumn and my favorite color. I love that purple can be strong and regal. That it can be soft and light. I had a difficult time finding purple leaves to capture despite my strong desire to capture them. The dilemma lay in the fact that the trees that produce purple leaves do not grow wild around here and thus have to be planted. After a wonderful day watching the sun rise and taking a trip to Mount Rainier, we found a small park in Buckley on the way home with a street that was lined with trees with purple leaves. As I walked along getting my shots I noticed two other photographers having portrait sessions. The surroundings were perfect with many varied settings and the weather was beautiful with areas of direct sun, filtered sun, shade and the brilliant blue of the sky. It was the perfect fall day of shooting.

My goal was to capture the amazing deep purple of the leaves contrasted with various other colors. I took a lot of shots and had a hard time narrowing down my favorites. As with all of my photos I planned on editing them. Upon opening them in Lightroom though they were such a close match to they way I saw each shot. Therefore, these are SOOC. I hope you don't mind :o). I love the power of editing, but I also find such a sense of accomplishment in taking pictures that just don't need editing to match what I see. What do you think?
