Project 52 - 29/52

I had a wonderful time visiting my dad in Astoria, Oregon earlier in the week. I feel blessed to get to spend the time with my family in such an amazing setting! On the first day we went to dinner at the Rogue Public House that sits on a pier on the Columbia, I highly reccommend it! Then I caught the sunset at one of my favorite places on Earth - the beach at Fort Stevens State Park. I was the only person on that portion of beach and I ran around as the sun set capturing different views. If anyone had been there I am sure they would have been amused at my crazy running around!

On the second day we had lunch at Mo's at Cannon Beach, another one of my favorite places to eat. Then my dad's step-granddaughter and I went for a walk on Cannon Beach near Ecola Creek. A storm was approaching, but I enjoyed the beach immensely even the wading across the creek that may or may  have resulted in a soaking shoe for my companion :o).

Finally, on the morning of my departure I explored the beautiful flowers around my dad's house to get some macro shots. The prompt for the Nurture Photography Project (link below) is Green/Adventure. I think the whole trip qualifies as an adventure and the last photo has a bit of green! I am also being adventurous in my editing as I have been playing around with Luminosity Masks in Photoshop. They are amazing! I am going to play around some more and then do a tips and tricks post.

I hope your week has been filled with adventure! I am off on a trip to Bend, Oregon for some more adventure.

Tones on Tuesday #83 7.9.13

Happy July! I thought I was going to be back on track this month with all my editing and posting, but I have been in an editing rut. I have had an amazing time shooting lately, but I get to editing and my excitement wanes. I am hoping to get back to enjoying editing soon. Anyone else going through a rut right now? What do you do to get back to enjoying the process?

Now onto Tones on Tuesday! I would like to try something new with the link up. I would like to invite you to choose the showcases for the week. I love providing a bit of acknowledgement to your talent by showcasing photos, but with just me picking you are only seeing my picks. I would love to have other perspectives. If you would like to participate and pick the 3 showcased photos for the week please read the guidelines below and then email me. I hope to start this next week!

Guidelines for picking showcased photos...
1. You must wait until the link up has closed on Friday night and look at all of the photos.
2. You must pick 3 photos and write a sentence describing what catches your eye about each photo.
3. You must email me the links to each photo and the descriptions by midnight on Sunday.
4. Most likely goes without saying, but you cannot pick your own photo.
5. Have an alternate or two ready in case one of the photos you have chosen does not follow the guidelines.

Please email me at scatteredhorizons.esc@gmail.com if you are interested!

Also, don't forget to link back to Scattered Horizons so your photo can be considered for showcasing!

Synnöve at Seraphina's Phantasie

Laurie at Pride in Photos
I love the details in this photo. The prickly parts, the buds and the ridges all combine to showcase this beautiful and misunderstood plant. Thank you for linking up!

Pieni at Pieni Lintu
Beautiful dramatic light and a lovely collection of flowers. Thank you for sharing this lovely image!

Now it's your turn to share your photo with altered tones. Here are the guidelines for Tones on Tuesday:

  • Please share a photo that you have taken and edited yourself.
  • One photo per photographer please. If you have more than one photo in your post please indicate which one is for Tones on Tuesday. If you link up more than once only the first photo will be considered for showcasing.
  • Please link up with your permalink and not your blog address.
  • Attach the Tones on Tuesday button or a link to Scattered Horizons to your post.

As I mentioned, I have been having a lot of fun shooting lately. Here is a shot from a photography meet up I went to with the Clickin Moms in my area. We went to a strawberry patch to pick berries. Here is a shot of blackberries and one of rasperries - I did not pick these :).

I also made a new watermark. What do you think?

Project 52: Week 21/52

Sometimes we take for granted the things that are right outside our doorstep. Sometimes things that disappointed you may be leading you to appreciate the beauty that surrounds you on a daily basis. After a weekend filled with events that conspired to keep me either working or at home, and not out shooting, I came home on Monday night a little early from work and it was like the flowers were lit up especially for me. I spent a good portion of my evening just appreciating the poppies, weeds, winning flowers from a bridal shower movie quote game, window box flowers, rhodies about to bloom and above all...light. Sometimes it takes a change of plans to remind us that we are blessed! After the events around the country this week, I feel lucky to be reminded!

Tones on Tuesday #78 5.21.13

I was so excited to see over 30 photos linked up with a great mix of those who link up faithfully and those here for the first time. I am so glad to see photos from around the world here each week! My hope is that it will continue to grow even though it makes my job of picking 3 showcases that much harder. Very tough this week, but here are 3 that caught my eye...

Patrice at Old Back Porch
I love the vintage feel of the tones here! I agree with Patrice, they look like they were pulled right out of the ground. Thank you for sharing!

The vibrant colors are stunning and their richness draws you in as if you are walking along the beach as well. Thank you for linking up Heather!

Abrianna at Cowgirl Yankee
The black and white is perfect here! The dramatic tones emphasize the details on this cute cat's face! Thank you for sharing Abrianna!

Patrice, Heather and Abrianna please go HERE to grab your showcase button.

I was unable to get out and shoot this weekend. I hope to shoot some flowers around my house tomorrow if I get off in time and the light holds out. However, I did happen upon this snail one morning before work and had to take a few seconds to shoot it before I dashed off to my classroom. I wish I had more time to play with the aperture to get more of the snail's body in focus, but there is something about the focus on the shell that just sort of works for me. I have another one to post on Thursday that is closer with more detail, but the shell is out of focus and the body is in focus. What do you think? Does the snail body out of focus detract too much? What do you think about the opposite with the body being in focus and the shell out?
