Project 52 - Week 6/52

Do you ever have those times when you are ready, willing and able to shoot and you just can't get the shots you want? For me, one of 2 things gets in the way. Either the weather is not cooperating which in turn effects the light or I just can't get to the view I want. This weekend, the 2nd issue caused me problems. From the highway there was a stunning view of Mount Stuart and the Stuart Range, but on all of the exits and side roads it just wasn't the same. (see the 2nd picture) This left me a bit discouraged and with very few inspiring photos. So I decided to take a page from my Reverse 365 project and focus on the editing. This month for my project I am working on the gradient tool in Lightroom and an HDR Tutorial I found for Photoshop. I love HDR photos, but haven't got the hang of the real thing (in camera). So I decided to give it a try in Photoshop. I would love some feedback as I can't decide if I feel it is too much or not enough. What do you think?

  1. Beautiful! I need to experiment with HDR more...hmm. I need photoshop, though. I use GIMP (cuz it's free, lol).
However, I love both images. Somehow I think the first one in B&W would be spectacular, too. :) I'm also going to subscribe to your blog via RSS feed and put your button on my blog (pictimilitude.com). Awesome stuff here!

  3. Love that shot of Mt. Stuart, I think the best shots I've ever gotten of it was from the rest stop on I90 at Indian John Hill... as to HDR, I've done a bit, but did so from bracketing. Thank you for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #69!

  4. I like your HDR editing. One thing most people who are new to HDR do is over-editing (I'm definitely guilty of this). You didn't do this, which is great. As you get better at it, you learn to apply it sparingly.

  6. I love how these turned out. I completely understand what you are saying though. I was starting a new set for a client for some product photos yesterday- I just couldn't get in the groove. I was not liking what was happening. It took about twice as long as it should have because I just couldn't find my creativity & I was struggling. Hoping when I head back in the studio today it's a different story.
