This weekend my mom and I headed up to Seattle on a somewhat sunny day. We decided to head to the Olympic Sculpture Park after waiting a bit for the parking to become available. It never fails that on a sunny day we Pacific Northwesterners will be out and about in droves. One thing I love about living here is that the sun is never taken for granted :o). I didn't have too high of hopes for the sunset due to the clouds constantly on the move, but I was pleasantly surprised with some beautiful color before the sun dipped behind the clouds. Those pictures will be up on Thursday. The picture below was taken on the way back to the car during the start of the blue hour. I loved the feel of this running sculpture and in honor of Tones on Tuesday I changed some of the tones to purple. I used a combination of editing in Lightroom and Photoshop to achieve this look. I am not a runner but I can feel the sense of freedom here and it makes me wish I did run.

This weekend I had the opportunity to go to my favorite place, the beach! The sun was shining, but it was quite chilly with a bit of a wind. For me, though, any day at the beach is an amazing day no matter the weather. I decided to solely use my 50mm lens to become familiar with it and see what it could do for me in terms of sharpness. I definetly see a difference from my kit lens and along with back button focusing and other things I have been doing to achieve sharp photos, I am happy with the results. For the photo below I wanted to capture the solitude of the beach (only the die hards were out for any long period of time :o). I decided to go creative with the editing to change the hazy dull sky to something a bit more vibrant. Just basic settings to achieve this. I really like the stillness of this photo.

For my photo today I decided to go a different route than I usually do. I went with a creative edit. To me, a creative edit means that you do not aim to make the photo look as close to the natural scene you saw. Instead you aim to put your artistic interpretation on it. So for this shot of the Clark Lake Park sunset, I decided to take what was already there and bring it out through making the colors vivid and bright, more so than could be considered natural. I did this in Lightroom by upping the vibrance and saturation to the same level (a trick I learned from Ashley Sisk back when she was hosting the edit part of Shoot and Edit) and then by using the tone curve and the HSL levels. This I learned from a friend of mine who is a contributor at Click it Up a Notch. Melissa had some great tips for the tone curve that I also applied to the HSL levels. I think because I do not usually go with creative edits, I kept this a little more on the subtle side in comparison to others' definitions of creative edits. For me, I simply love it!
