Reverse 365: Spray Painted Graffiti - Day 144/365 5.24.13

I have felt like I am in a bit of a rut with editing lately. I have been focusing on Lightroom and zeroing out photos to use the full potential of RAW, however, I am still in need of tutorials for the month. If you find any interesting ones I would love hear about them!

Project 52 - Week 10/52

Do you ever have an idea for a shoot that doesn't work out only to have what you do instead be better? That is what happened for me this weekend. In the past couple weeks a bunch of the local photographers I follow were doing shoots at the Pike Place Market. I was inspired and wanted to give it a try. However it was the first sunny day in a while and all of Seattle was out and about. We have to soak it up when we can! Parking was atrocious and frustrating so we had to regroup. We had some lunch and then I remembered wanting to go to the Olympic Sculpture Park a month or so ago. We headed in that direction and were blessed with a parking spot right next to the park. It is such a lovely place that mixes the natural beauty and the artwork gorgeously. The light was stunning and the shapes of the sculptures provided beautiful subjects for photos. The pieces below are the ones I was drawn to, but the park is filled with many others. You can read more about the artwork and the different environments that represent the environmental diversity of the state here. I didn't expect to enjoy the park as much as I did, but now I would love to go back and see more of the pieces. Pike Place Market is still on my list, but I feel like it was meant to not work out this time. The best laid plans...

This weekend my mom and I headed up to Seattle on a somewhat sunny day. We decided to head to the Olympic Sculpture Park after waiting a bit for the parking to become available. It never fails that on a sunny day we Pacific Northwesterners will be out and about in droves. One thing I love about living here is that the sun is never taken for granted :o). I didn't have too high of hopes for the sunset due to the clouds constantly on the move, but I was pleasantly surprised with some beautiful color before the sun dipped behind the clouds. Those pictures will be up on Thursday. The picture below was taken on the way back to the car during the start of the blue hour. I loved the feel of this running sculpture and in honor of Tones on Tuesday I changed some of the tones to purple. I used a combination of editing in Lightroom and Photoshop to achieve this look. I am not a runner but I can feel the sense of freedom here and it makes me wish I did run.

I Clicked it Up a Notch - June

If May was a difficult month, June was daunting. However, I was determined to spend some time with my photography. I had the opportunity to head to the eastern part of the state of Washington to a place called the Qunicy Wildlife Recreation Area. It was an amazing journey and ended with the chance to try to photograph a sunset silhouette shot of something other than the ocean. It stretched me a bit to find a location with enough visual interest for the amazing sunset to contrast with, but I feel successful in the end. I am glad that I took the time to capture this moment and to take a photographic chance.

Wordless Wednesday: The Ever Changing Sunsets

One of the most majestic things about sunsets is that they are always changing. From one day to the next, from one moment to the next, there is stunning beauty and a timeless feel. I love the challenge of capturing something that utterly captivates me and how each time I set out to photograph it is a unique experience. These photos are two different sunsets - one on Friday at Birch Bay in northern Washington and one from Saturday in Lincoln City, Oregon on Siletz Bay.

I took a little break from blogging as I was getting in a rut and feeling uninspired. The break helped and then I went to one of my favorite parks in Lincoln City on Siletz Bay to photograph my favorite subject - sunsets and silhouettes. It was a perfect experience and it reminded me that capturing the magic of nature is why I love photography. For the first edit I did a clean edit in Lightroom with the basic settings and the tone curve and then applied Pretty Presets Sharpening. For the second edit I used the Who Is Wolf BW Deluxe Light Preset. I love the vibrancy of the first and the drama of the second, what do you think?
