Over the weekend my family and I went snowshoeing. It was my first time and oh my was it a workout! We went to the top of Blewett Pass in the Wenatchee National Forest and hiked along the ridge with amazing views of the Enchantments. My brother and I ended up hiking 6 miles total. I did half with the snowshoes and half without. I feel very accomplished and very sore. It was my first time taking my camera along on a long hike. I feel like the photos took such an effort to get and only add to my sense of accomplishment. I also used the Zone System which made the editing fairly easy. I will be sharing more on Thursday!

Project 52 - Week 7/52

Last week I mentioned how I was feeling less than inspired by my attempts to capture a particular view. So this week I decided to just take a drive and see where it led me. I headed over Stevens Pass and was rewarded with a beautiful sky and light on the other side of the mountains. I pulled out my phone and as I often do I looked for parks near my location. I found Lake Wenatchee Park, Googled photos and decided it was a place I wanted to see. Oh my word, was it worth it! The sky was a gorgeous blue, it was in the upper 40s and there was snow on the ground and covering the distant mountains. I took a picture with my phone and posted it on Facebook with the Ansel Adams quote "Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter." It could not have been more true, it was picture perfect!

It was also a perfect time to use the Zone System. I metered off the sky and set my exposure to 1 stop up from perfectly exposed. It worked beautifully as I only had to do minor editing. The photos below are so close to what I saw that I takes me right back to this beautiful day. I couldn't decide which photo I like best so you get a few to take a look at. Also, the quote below sums up my feelings about nature to a T. I feel such a great connection to the universe, God and myself when I am outside. I am lucky to get to photograph the things I do!

This weekend I was very excited to see that the weather was going to be sunny. However, as is the case often with weather where I live, the sun was isolated to one spot. I was not to fear, though, because there is always another place within driving distance where the weather will be different. In this case, it took driving across the mountains and through some fog to get there. I will be sharing those "sunny" photos later this week. For today, I chose a foggy field I just had to pull over to take a picture of, it was calling to me. I love how the fog seems to be dancing across the field. I did an HDR process in Photoshop. I am still getting the hang of HDR as it is the focus for my Reverse 365 this month. I continue to struggle with how much is too much. What do you think?
